Building Energy Ratings
What is a BER?
A Building Energy Rating (BER) is a assessment of the efficiency of a building according to standards defined with the EU and Sustainable Energy Ireland. Ensen offers BERs on new and existing dwellings as well as associated quantified energy audits.
When do you need a BER?
By law you must have a BER done a) before anyone occupies a new dwelling b) before you sell or rent an existing dwelling or part of it and c) before and after accessing certain SEI home improvement grants.
What does getting a BER involve?
For new dwellings our BER inspector can work from plans and further information submitted by the owner or
their architect. Existing dwellings must be visited by our inspector who will measure, inspect building materials, insulation and heating and lighting system.
Our inspector will then use the SEI approved DEAP process to estimate your dwelling energy usage, suggest improvements and assign a label to the dwelling, ranging from A1 (most energy efficient) to G (least efficient). You will receive a certificate and your rating will be published.
Further details can be found in this SEI leaflet.
