Thermographic Imaging

We have all seen examples of infra red imaging – probably most impressively utilised by security force helicopters to pinpoint villains hiding in someone’s back yard. Essentially the devices are themometers – albeit sophisticated ones that in the correct hands can give real time data about the loss of energy from your home or workplace. It can also be used to find and quantify draughts, leaks, building faults and gaps in insulation.

Note the “in the right hands” part of the aforementioned claim – grab one of these cameras and start pointing it at everything in sight and you will wow your friends and amaze yourself – but produce very little useful data. In the hands of a trained professional “thermographer” it is the single most useful tool for troubleshooting buildings and measuring compliance with standards.
